FEHA and employment discrimination revisited
11.21.08 (5:59 pm) [edit]
The Fair Employment and Housing Act or FEHA is a law embodied in several sections of the California Government Code. It provides protection from employment discrimination.
Like those mentioned under the California Civil Code, it also prohibits discrimination on the basis of one’s person’s disability in all aspects of housing such as rental, lease, terms and conditions, etc.
This law also specifically prohibits harassment and retaliation against an employee for opposing unlawful practices prohibited by the law, or for filing a complaint, testifying or assisting in the proceeding s under the FEHA.
It is not unusual to hear complaints of employment discrimination in the state. In national level, the law makes it illegal to discriminate based on the following:
• Race
• Sex
• Religion
• National origin
• Physical & mental disability
• Age
• Pregnancy
• Anticipated deployment in the reserve components of US military or National Guard
In some states and cities, as well as counties and municipalities, it is also prohibited to discriminate of the basis of the political affiliation, sexual preferences, marital status, genetic disorder, medical condition and veteran status.
There is employment discrimination when an individual experienced bias in hiring, promotion, job assignment, termination, compensation and various types of harassment.

Recalling Defective Products
11.04.08 (7:24 pm) [edit]
We buy appliances, automobiles, machinery or any product because of the utility and assistance they give us. We expect that they be worth our hard-earned money.
Sometimes, however, they bring harm and disaster instead of helpful and valuable aid. Worse, they cause injuries and other devastating effects.
Products found to have harmful effects are recalled. Recently, China made products brought global scare with their lead manufactured toys and melamine contained milk and milk products.
In United States, defects usually manifest in inedible products. In fact, in a blog, “Product liability and Recall Processes”, the author cited the recalled baby cribs which caused the death of two infants.
Investigation revealed that the defective drop sides of the cribs caused the recall.
As emphasized by the author, a specific product is recalled upon complaint by the consumer. An investigation as to truthfulness of the allegations follows then the recall of the product itself.
In case the use of such product brought undesirable effects or irreversible damage, you can file a personal injury claim against the manufacturer or distributor.
Rest assured that your claim would warn potential buyers of such product thus, preventing further damage to the public.
