Safety Provided to Elderly in Institutions

Today, elderly can be put under the care of different medical institutions by their family if the latter can no longer give them the care that is needed. Money is paid to these institutions in exchange for the guarantee that their loved one will be safe and taken care of.

In the blog titled “Placing Elderly in Institutions; Is It Really Safe,” the author discussed the danger faced by elderly that is caused by the negligence of people who are working in these institutions.

In the said blog, the author cited incident that occurred in Anaheim Nursing Center wherein the negligence of a nursing assistance led to the death of a person.

I agree with the author that nursing institutions should have proper knowledge concerning the different kinds of accidents that patients may be involved in. The people who work in these institutions possess the responsibility in providing care for their patients.

In addition, they may be considered as liable for the death or injuries that may be sustained by people, specifically the elderly under their care as a result of an accident that occurred inside the institution.

Metrolink Crash: Negligence Resulted in Tragedy

Under the law, drivers have a “duty of care” to others, especially to passengers as their lives rest on them. He or she should exercise reasonable care at all times to make sure that the lives of others, including his/hers, are not put into danger.

But in the case of the train crash that involved the Metrolink and a Union Pacific freight train, that duty of care was violated.

The blog, titled “Metrolink Crash Update ,” the author discussed the events that happened during one of the worst train crashes in the history of Southern California. According to the initial investigation, the driver of the Metrolink, Robert Sanchez, was text messaging shortly before the flight, sent and received 57 messages that day while he was on duty.

It was also discovered that Sanchez had failed to stop at the red light, thus, ending on the track of the oncoming Union Pacific freight train

These actions of his can be considered negligence on his part that caused the accident to happen, resulting in 135 injuries and 25 fatalities.

It is just sad to know that the mistake of one can affect the lives of hundreds of people.

Catastrophe Brought by Plane Crashes

Though it is not rare, we don’t see plane crashes as often as we see car crashes on the daily news. But, when it happens, it is almost expected that someone gets hurt from it and would involve massive property damage.

Plane crashes are really unpredictable. There are those who survive from it and there are those whose remains were never found.

In the blog “Pilot Remains Unfound” the author follows up his previous blog which tells of a 71-year-old pilot of a Cessna plane who was lost after his aircraft landed on the sea. He was the only one on board when the accident happened.

I agree with the author in saying that remains of the demised in accidents like this will be really hard to find especially because it happened on sea.

The body could be eaten by sharks or be swept by the water to other directions and so rescuers would be lucky to find his body intact.

Plane accidents can really be dangerous and could cause a catastrophe as it endangers the lives of the many passengers, crews, and others who are living near the crash site.

So, pilots and aircraft owners must make sure that the plane is safe and is thoroughly inspected by licensed mechanics before they are used to avoid such accidents.

Keeping Plane Passengers Safe from Tragedy

More and more people choose to travel by plane as it provides them comfort and a much shorter travel time.

Since an airline can carry many passengers, it is considered to be a common courier. This makes them more responsible in cases of accidents compared to other parties.

Airlines and private plane owners should be more careful in maintaining the good running condition of their aircrafts as many lives depend on it; those of passengers, the crew, the pilot, and people below where planes might crash.

In the blog “Pilot Missing in a Plane Crash ”, there is only one person affected in the crash; the pilot who is still missing.

I agree with the author in saying that not all onboard the planes that crashed would be retrieved.

There have been many cases wherein bodies were not found because of the velocity of the crashing plane which could have thrown passengers out of the plane.

Because of this accident, I think safety measures should be tightened by authorities and private plane owners.

Also, licensed pilots must be wary of their flying techniques and skills even if he is alone in the plane as there might be other people affected in the crash.

Holding Care Facilities Liable for Injuries of Patients

In our modern times, most of us choose to send our elderly to nursing homes where they can receive better medical treatment and proper supervision.

Relatives of these elderly are complacent in knowing that their loved ones are well taken care of and are in the hands of professionals.

But, in a blog entitled “Responsibility of Care Facilities: Protecting the Well-being of Patients”, I was surprised to learn that there are those who are not cared for and are neglected at times which has resulted to a wrongful death.

The death of a resident because of insufficient supervision from the facility’s staff is truly unacceptable. I believe that facilities like this should be sued and compensate the family’s loss.

The compensation would somehow ease the burden of those grieving relatives as their loved ones has suffered a terrible fate under the supervision of those who should care for them.

It saddens me that a death had to occur before proper legal actions are taken against these negligent facility managements who should be taking care of the residents.

Government agencies responsible in maintaining the safety of these facilities should improve their system of checking and making sure that everyone is safe in these nursing homes.
