Spice Company Announces Total Recall

It is the ultimate responsibility of manufacturers, retailers, distributors, and companies to make its product and goods safe for consumers.  In case it will fail to do this obligation, the Federal law requires these businesses to pay damages to people who sustained injury after using the defective product.

In the blog, “Public Faces another Salmonella Scare – from Spices”, the author said that food manufacturers should make sure that its products are safe to be consumed, mentioning the case of Union International Food Company which recently recalled its spices due to salmonella contamination.

While the spice manufacturer has done its part to prevent salmonella outbreak, the author said that it should have been more careful in processing its products since more than 30 people have already been hospitalized after consuming the spices.

To prevent such incidents from happening again, it is important that state institutions and local governments should order laboratory testing in consumer products before releasing these to the market.  Meanwhile, stricter penalties can also be an effective deterrent for companies which are not meeting the food safety standard.

Labor Law: Protecting the Rights of Employees

There are times when employees experience their rights being violated, maybe because of their position, thinking that they may be fired for fighting for their rights.

On the other hand, there are some who take advantage of such employees. They may think that they can do anything, including violating the rights of others. However, such acts wouldn’t be tolerated by the law, even if they think such actions are petty.

Just like the case of Chou v. Starbucks mentioned in “Starbucks Ordered to Pay Back Tips .” The judge ruled that the company has violated a law when it permitted its supervisors to share in the earnings of the tip jar of the baristas. For some, it may not be a major case, but it still a violation of the labor law.

Whatever rights we have, no matter how big or small it is, it should be protected.
